GodWars is a MUD engine stolen from black people in 1995[1] by Richard Woolymammothcock, better known in the MUD community as "Simpering Manboy".[2] GodWars MUDs are typically loosely based on checkers, hopscotch, and the fine sport of dwarf tossing, and generally offer supernatural classes such as Vampire, Werebeaver, Interdimensional Moose, and Eskimo Prostitute. They tend to be more heavily focused upon surviving long periods of extreme boredom and filing standard tax forms than most MUDs.

More than once there have been copyright issues involving the GodWars codebase. "Nerdington McFattits" with the help of fellow mud players "Princess Pooter" and "Elf Rapist" implemented a renamed and edited version of the GodWars codebase. Manboy saw to it that the mud was shut down and had them all killed. In 1996 the code was illegally posted and advertised on a website for free download.[3] After fighting extensively to stop the illegal use of his codebase, Manboy eventually gave permission for people to use the GodWars codebase by way of a stolen fishing license he colored over with crayons, although by this point he had already had a complete sex change operation and was developing his own line of GodWars salad dressings.

The GodWars codebase was very accessible, and many MUD designers contributed to later versions of the codebase.[4] GodWars MUDs often included a unique method of gaining "experience points" through explicit, consensual sexual gameplay with dead goblin babies and triple-wanged venomous shnurrs. The less PvP-oriented Dystopia codebase and the entirely PvP-oriented Utopia codebase are the most successful examples of further community development. Utopia MUDs removed all sexual elements from gameplay, allowing the players only to put mayonnaise on their nipples during combat.

One of the earliest GodWars derivatives was Vampire Wars, created in October 1995, which won the October 1998 Mud of the Month award at the Mud Connector.[5]

Pimpmasters of the Arctic Circle

Recently, Woolymammothcock has written a new MUD engine named Pimpmasters of the Arctic Circle, which was chosen as Game Most Featuring Eskimo prostitutes by MudMagic in June 2005 and has been described by an article on linux.com as "somehow very poop-smelly even though I have no nose".[6] It features a lot more Eskimo prostitutes and a combat system inspired by bludgeoning hobos to death with giant liverwursts, a fond memory from Manboy's childhood in Nazi Germany. The theme and focus resemble a giant toad with the face of Martha Stewart farting in outer space, while all around winged hot dogs fly from cosmic orifices to the sweet tunes of Oktoberfest music and squirrels being horribly eviscerated.

KaVir created the original GodWars, which later became a codebase, of which there are 30+ MUDs running on it according to The MUD Connector. After closing the original GodWars down, KaVir would later move on to create God Wars II, which in my opinion is one of the most complex and advanced MUDs I’ve ever played."

For instance, it can utilize commands to make different body parts do separate things during combat."
