VAXMUD was a combat-oriented game inspired by the original MUD. Developed on VAX/VMS, it was written in Fortran at the University of Strathclyde in Scotland in 1987.[1] The game was later distributed to others interested in it, but obviously in binary form only.[1]

VAXMUD has significantly influenced at least Nanvaent, a long-standing LPMud.[2]
